Ok, so I’ve been blogging for about six weeks now and one thing I’ve discovered is that mom bloggers are amazing! I had no idea what a huge powerhouse we are! Through social media and blogging I have found moms who have common values, fiery personalities and commanding knowledge of the ins and outs of the internet! I am in awe of all the communities available to moms out there, no matter our race, interests, religion or political affiliations there is a community out there for each of us! Sometimes several! The internet is a place where strong, like-minded women come together and connect to share ideas and support each other.
For those in less urban areas or places with little diversity, being able to connect to moms who understand us is so important. I recently moved across the country and had to leave behind family and friends…essentially, all of my mom support base. I had to find another way to connect and the social media is where it’s at. For me, Facebook has been more than necessary, it’s been my lifeline. I’m sure many other moms can relate. I post new pics, videos and more every week for my family and yes, I have hundreds of photo albums and they’re all of my baby girl! Lol!
More recently, I discovered the benefits of Twitter and now I can’t imagine my life without it! There is more access to great content on Twitter! I thought Google was great, but it doesn’t compare to Twitter. With Twitter you can search by keywords to find information about whatever you want. If you find a Twit (is that right? Hehehe!) who shares your interests you can connect with them and get more of the great content they share instead of doing all the searching yourself! You can discover the content that you want because you only “follow” your favorite Tweets! Plus…ummm…did I mention it’s mobile capabilities? Unlike Facebook, Twitter is easy to access from your mobile device and without all the burden of constant page navigation.
Another great web feature that helps mom bloggers to connect are directory sites. We can add our page to directories like Blogadera, BlogCatalog and NetworkedBlogs and find other bloggers with similar interests. There is no better friend than a mom blogger who’s already been there and done that and can give us tips and encouragement! As you’ll notice, all of the above links will connect you to my profiles on these various sites. I’m still working on developing some of them, but you get the general idea if you’re not on these sites already.
Many may not understand the connection between moms and blogging, but I know that it has been therapeutic for me. When I first started this blog, I figured that I would just clear some thoughts out of my head, but it has been so refreshing to see that other moms can relate to my words. This past week I have been working on a new project which has taken up a lot of my time lately. I’m planning to unveil a new (and hopefully better) website for this blog. Please bear with me if I don’t post quite as often and thanks for the support of all the moms and mom bloggers out there who have taken interest in my blog!
