A poetic introduction…
I am from distant travels, hometown exploration and backyard adventures.
I am from sweet, homemade treats and flowery bouquets, from captured images and constant motion.
I am from the mobile suburbs…impoverished, uneducated, but bright with sunny hope and 1st chances.
I am from the Lily, the strong, spiritual mother, the flower mi abuela held close.
I am from beachside barbeques and spirited conversations, from a line that carries Marvins and Bessies and Maries.
I am from the loud oppressive voices and poetic gentle encouragement, of both haves and have nots.
From “failure is your worst enemy” and “you can do anything“.
I am from stone structures with colored windows and lit crosses. I am from raised hands, lifted eyes and hope-filled prayers.
I am from the gulf coast, home of Katrina, the richness of stews and fiery sabor.
I am from great lakes, crystal waters and green plains.
I am from open prairies, shattered dreams and new beginnings.
From the Catholic weddings with pollo asado, a honeymoon escape far away, running from suegra, 3 siblings and two sets of parents.
I am from the silver an pearl album that recounts the day I started over, the photos, the memories, the people who’ve made my life beautiful.
I am from peace and confusion, from chaos and loving arms.
I am from places, that led me to places, that will lead me places. I am home.
Where are you from?

Beautiful words, amiga. Now I know where “Lily” came from. : )
Lol! Yes, Lily’s name comes from my grandmother. It was her favorite flower. To double the reference, Lily’s middle name starts with “Flor”. ;)
