Eating & Drinking Right
This week was kind of tough. Ok, it was downright difficult. It was week one of my Life Change Challenge, in which my goal is to live healthier and fitter. Well, it went ok, but I can’t say it went well. Hubby brought in his usual sabotage…lol. For one, he’s a Coke-aholic, which isn’t good. ;) I don’t mind a Coke here and there, but it shouldn’t be a substitute for water…sorry hubby! So, there were a few other bad things he brought into the house, but it’s a work in progress.
I’m personally of the mind that the best policy is “Out of sight, out of mind.” This is essential for me, since I no longer have the will-power I once had. I really have to keep the world around me “clean” in order to be successful. So what does that mean? Well, it means surrounding myself with vegetables, quick go-to alternatives that will make it easier to resist those devilishly convenient processed foods. It also means removing all sweet drinks from our home. No sodas, fruit juices, sweetened teas, etc. I can only imagine how many calories this could possibly remove, especially for the hubs. Cross your fingers for him, I’m sure he’ll be having withdrawals for a while…lol. Whoops, I’m not supposed to laugh, right? Oh well, at least I’m not suffering on my own. It’s great to have a hubby that’s really trying to stick with it and support a healthier lifestyle for both of us.
Ok, so the biggest challenge is sticking to a fitness routine, right? I mean, once you’ve gotten out of shape, getting back to it is probably one of the biggest challenges out there. Especially as a wife and mother who focuses on everyone but yourself. And even more so when it seems like the finish line is unreachable.
This will be my biggest chunk of “me time,” but I don’t plan on doing it all alone. Hubby has agreed to go on walks with me, of course, Lily will be taking me out to the park every day (lol) and I’m resolving to spend some time on my indoor cycle at least once a day. I know, big dreams right? LOL! It actually won’t be that difficult, if I can just get myself into the HABIT of applying my “me time” daily. If I can do that…it will be a cake walk…so we’ll see.
Breaking it Down
I know from experience that the key to achieving your goals is to make them reachable. I tried last year to tell myself, “I want to lose x amount of weight in x months.” This never works. First of all, I don’t know about you, but I need to see results in order to be motivated, so I think setting small goals at first is so important. I’ll be setting weekly goals and keeping track of my progress by writing in a daily journal. This way, I can see my daily and weekly progress. Hubby and I are getting all into it by doing a “Biggest Loser” weigh in each week (minus the gawking audience) and who knows, maybe we’ll share the photos of our progress someday in the future…RIGHT!! We’ll see about that one. ;)
