Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis & Auto-Immune Disease
Some of you may have noticed that I haven’t been around as much lately…and you’ve probably also noticed that I haven’t been doing my weekly columns (Multicultural Mondays & the Life Change Challenge).
I just wanted to check in and let you all know that I am still alive…barely! lol. I have been really sick the past two weeks, not to mention the fact that Hashimoto’s is no picnic. I don’t think I’ve talked about it on here before, but I have a thyroid issue that sometimes leaves me feeling emotionally blah and overly tired…especially when I’m sick for long periods like this.
For those who’ve never heard of Hashimoto’s, it’s kind of like having all of the energy drained out of your body and strangely enough, it also effects your brain functioning, so focusing long enough to even write a few paragraphs can be difficult at times.
I’ve actually found a few other bloggers who have this, so I’m glad that I have a couple people who can relate to this experience.
My sister, who has a much more serious auto-immune disease, also suffers from similar symptoms, like fatigue, weakened muscles, thinning hair (in her case, she has lost all her hair), depression (which seems to come and go often for those with an auto-immune disease), joint pain, etc. The symptoms vary, but these are some of the ones that most people seem to have.
Like I said, it’s no picnic…but it’s manageable most of the time. Typically, it is at it’s worst when you get sick and that’s where I’ve been at these last couple weeks. So I apologize for not blogging as much.
Thanks for understanding and I’m sure I’ll be back to harassing you with my opinions on Monday…hopefully sooner. ;)

@ezzylanguzzi Thank you Ezzy. You’re such a good friend. <3 I’m about to head off and take a nap now…lol. Hugs to you girl. :)
Hope you feel better!!!!!!!!! <3
Hope you feel better soon!
Can you share the auto immune disease your sister has? I’m going to be inquiring about Hashimoto with my doctor, but all options would be great. I’ve been diagnosed with “severe fibro” for years, but know it’s not the only answer… my fatigue, depression, joint pain, etc is far worse than any other “fibro” person I’ve talked to.
Cari, that’s a really good question. My sister was initially thought to have Lupus by her doctors, but after testing, they discovered otherwise. I will ask her for you and comment back here, because I can’t remember if she ever got an official diagnosis. Definitely do get tested for thyroid, blood abnormalities, etc. though. You need to know what is causing you to have all these awful symptoms. I know that when I was going through it without a diagnosis, I thought I was dying of cancer. It feels that bad. Take care of yourself and please check back here in a couple of days for my follow-up comment!
Best,
Chantilly
Thank you – If you can send me whatever conditions they though you or your sister might have, that would be great. I go to my Endocrinology appointment in 2 weeks for testing and want all avenues explored. (we’ve done so many already) You can private message me too at marta0667 at hotmail. Thanks!
