Swim Parks & Summer Memories
When I was growing up, it was the beach. We were always there every weekend and even on the weekdays during the hottest weeks. But here in Sioux Falls, we don’t have Lake Michigan…we have water parks.
Sometimes I still miss the beach. I miss picking out our spot, laying out a picnic on the hot sand and setting up our umbrella and playing “tent” will Lily. But, swim parks like the ones here in Sioux Falls also have something great to offer. I’m definitely thankful for them, since there’s no real “beach” here. It gives our family a place to swim. It also comes without the mess of sand in your shorts…and a chance to meet up with lots of other families like ours. ;)
We live in a great area too because we can walk to the zoo and to our favorite water parks from our house. Britax recently provided us with one of their latest model strollers, the new 2012 B-READY® stroller, for our family walks and trips to the swim parks. It also doubles as a great spot for mija’s breaks in the shade, away from the summer heat.

Swimming in Sioux Falls
Another great thing about the local swim parks is that they also sell season passes at a great rate, they’re open nearly all day, every day during summer and they offer reduced-income passes and free passes to families on state assistance. Love this! That way, nobody misses out on the fun!

Lily loves being a little acrobat in the water and in the images below, you can see her practicing her waterbending and performing the crane…lol. In the image above, you can also see her harassing her favorite lifeguard who she asks about a million different questions whenever we go to the local pool. They rotate the lifeguards often, so Lily is always looking out for her, ready to swim over and strike up a conversation. I personally think part of her obsession with lifeguards comes from her love of the character Lani in Surf’s Up.

Summer time at the pools also means meeting up with friends. Lily and her friend Lala had a great time swimming together while hubby and I visited with Lala’s grandma. It was awesome to find another bicultural Latino family out here…especially one with a little girl Lily’s age. It has been so much fun watching them play together, not to mention the other little ones she has befriended at the community pools. :)

Regardless of where you go, or even if it’s your own backyard, water play is definitely a big part of summer fun and family time…and it’s great for bonding with new friends too!
I would love to hear your stories. Where do you swim? Do you BBQ, picnic or do any other special activities along side swim time?

Hiya, great to see you’re enjoying the sunshine and don’t kids just love the water?! My two adore swimming outdoors and a couple of days ago it was actually hot enough in here in England to go to the outdoor pool! They had a ball and it was so nice to be swimming, picnicing and playing football beside the pool :-)
Hi Tallulah! Thanks for stopping by. ;) That’s the one plus about these hot days…pool time! :) Last time we were at the pool, one of the other kids had a little Nerf floating football and Lily wants one now…so I think we’ll be playing some football too. ;)
Enjoy your summer! So glad you guys had a warm day to play in the pool!
I love water parks! Too bad we can’t make it for this summer but we usually hit the pool at our apartment complex, at grandpa’s house and go to the beach. Your girl looks like she had tons of fun!! :)
Hey, anyway you can beat the heat is a win, win! ;) Stay cool chica!
I love swimming! Personal fave, Mexico while on vacation, but I’ll take the pool in a pinch! :)
Ooooh…well, make me jealous why don’t ya? ;) Lol! I would take Mexico any day!!
They seem to be really enjoying that nice cool water! I understand, it is soooo hot here in Florida, that is all my daughter wants to do!
Hey Myrah! Thanks for stopping by and congrats to your daughter on her quince!! Seems like this year is one of the hottest ever!
Your little one is P-R-E-C-I-O-U-S !!!!! Ok, that being said…. we have a water park not too far from where we live and I love it! It looks very similar to the one you guys were at. We love to go there but unfortunately did not make it this year because my work schedule is CRAZY. My son’s daycare did take the kids swimming this summer, two days a week. It’s been so hot here that it was much appreciated by the parents. Her stroller looks super comfy!
Ha!! Thanks Tara! :) I totally get you on the crazy…lol! Glad your son’s daycare took the kids out for a swim! That is beyond awesome and I’m sure the kids were super grateful!
The stroller is awesome, for real! I think I like it even better than the car seat…lol. Pushing is effortless and it is definitely comfy. ;)
Hope you get a chance to swim a little yourself before the summer is over!
Nice photos! It looks like your beautiful daughter was enjoying the day at the water park.
Summer means fun!
Thanks Cristina! Loved your Sequoia National Park photos! That’s one place we definitely want to visit! :)
It’s pretty cold in San Francisco and although we are surrounded by beaches only the hardcore go in the chilly water. My girls love water play. They have a water table and recently I got them a collapsible pool that has just about collapsed, but they have gotten lots of fun out of it.
