Child Passenger Safety Week: September 16-22, 2012
According to the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the majority of car seats are still not used correctly. Could your child’s be one of them?
Since car crashes are the leading cause of death among children one through 13, parents should be more motivated than ever to take action and be certain their child is safe. That is what NHTSA’s Child Passenger Safety Week is all about. During Child PassengerSafety Week, NHTSA offers tools and resources to help you make safer choices for your child when he or she travels. The highlight of Child Passenger Safety Week is National Seat Check Saturday on September 22, 2012. On this day, car seat inspection stations nationwide will provide car seat checks and hands-on advice to parents and caregivers about selecting the right car seat for a child’s age and size as well as installation tips.
“National Seat Check Saturday is your opportunity to make your child’s safety in the car a priority. Many parents go into an inspection with no idea that their child is at risk, but walk away knowing that that their child and safe and secure instead of just assuming it,” said NHTSA Administrator David Strickland.

NHTSA also offer several resources in Spanish to help you keep your children safe in the car. These resources include:
- Tips for safely installing car and booster seats.
- A car seat inspection station locator that includes the option of searching for Spanish-speaking technicians.
- Instructional videos for installing several types of car seats and booster seats.
- An ease-of-use rating system for car seats and booster seats.
